I had kids take "divided"/hybrid notes (a column for summary, a column for questions, and a space for nonlinguistic representation of ideas we read about) and had them include Mr. Stick from the Writing Fix site to tell more about the summary notes - were they confused, confident, etc. (Emily McMullen, Granby).
